Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl (Japanese: 新・世界樹の迷宮 ミレニアムの少女 New Labyrinth of the World Tree: The Millennium Girl) is a dungeon-crawler RPG for the Nintendo 3DS, released in Japan in November 2014, in North America in August 2015, and in Europe in February 2016. It is a remake of the first game in the series, Etrian Odyssey; the overall fifth title in the Etrian Odyssey series, and the second entry for the Nintendo 3DS.
"The hero is a young Highlander, a member of one of the many clans from the Highland area, who receives an unusual request and travels to the town of Etria.
"The request was to 'investigate an abnormality occurring in Etria.'
"The town's ruling council has sent for a Highlander to search for the source of a series of mysterious earthquakes and sounds that has begun to trouble the city in recent months. In the course of his investigation, he meets an amnesiac girl named Frederica.
"A trio of researchers from the Midgard Library, an institution several settlements over, has come to Etica to seek out the same abnormalities. After a chance encounter with the three, they introduce themselves as Simon, Arthur, and Raquna. It soon becomes apparent that there is a need for all of them to delve into the challenging wilderness of the Yggdrasil Labyrinth, which has some deep connection with a set of strange ruins.
"What could these abnormalities be? All the keys to this puzzle remain locked in the memories of the girl..."
Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl is the first game in the series to have two gameplay modes, Classic and Story. Classic Mode is the same as with other entries, with custom characters and maps. Story Mode is similar to other RPG series in that there's an expansive story with cutscenes and preset characters with voice acting, but players will still have to draw out their own dungeon maps as with other Etrian Odyssey games. There are also three difficulty settings: Picnic which gives an easy gameplay experience, Normal for a moderately difficult yet manageable gameplay experience, and Expert which is the toughest gameplay possible.
